Since 1872, Palmer Instruments has manufactured Industrial Temperature, Pressure and Volume Instrumentation.  We are the oldest manufacturer of thermometers in the United States, and we are credited with the invention of the "Red Reading Mercury" Thermometer in 1936.

We have a tradition and reputation for top of the line quality products which includes Industrial Thermometers; Rigid and Remote Dial Thermometers; Bimetallic, Laboratory and ASTM type Thermometers; Temperature, Pressure, and Volume Recorders; Thermo-wells; and Pressure Gauges.

Palmer Instruments, Inc. originated in Cincinnati in 1836 when James Foster Jr. traveled by wagon train from New York to Ohio.  He brought his stock of goods to set up business manufacturing philosophical, mathematical and surveying instruments.  After he passed away, his widow hired Richard Penny Palmer to run the Foster Co. Richard Palmer played an important part in the making of the "Foster Cup" which was the first thermometer manufactured in the West.  Mr. Palmer later purchased the firm and renamed it The Palmer Co.

In 1936, Charles Palmer developed the idea of "Red Reading Mercury".  This so revolutionized the thermometer industry that today all thermometer manufacturers in the U.S. have made thermometers from this patented tubing.  It was the most radical improvement ever made in thermometers.

Today, Palmers' quality products are used in serving the food, beverage, candy, dairy, pulp and paper industries; government, aerospace, rubber, chemical, petrochemical, Natural Gas distribution, transmission and production, as well as the HVAC industry; and other places where temperature, pressure and volume measurement are needed.

Palmer is continuously developing new products especially geared to the needs of our customers.  We are able to do extensive machining, welding, painting, assembly, and have calibration capabilities.  Our quality program is in accordance with MIL I-45208A and can utilize SPC if necessary.
